Focusing on Moon blade RPG

The previous announced project (which, by the way, was later on planned to be an RPG type thins instead) is put on hold in favor of our big pet project, Moon blade. You can only work on so much with a limited amount of spare time, so we decided to do that instead!

Speaking of Moon blade, here’s a picture of Chris’s latest work on the graphics. It should also tell you a bit about the mapping style:

Edit: the project has changed and is now going to be an RPG with realtime on-map action instead. However, it is also put on hold in favor of Moon Blade.

We’ve started a new game project featuring a Tengu (a mythological Japanese creature) travelling through a very atmospheric world. He will have many companions he can call out to help him on his way. The game will be very puzzle-centric, and level editing will be a big part of the game’s features.

Here’s the first concept art (in sprite form). Almost nothing but the above information is set in stone.

Released: Sir Boingers and the Quest for Cupcakes (and Justice)!

You are Sir Boingers, a noble knight with his trusty jumpbird, on a Quest to retrieve cupcakes from the land known as Perilterria (or the Dangerzone).

This game was made in Sphere for Radnen’s retro game competition held in May 2010 on spheredev.org. It will see a second, improved release around June 2010.

Game features

Aims to be fun and challenging. The controls and levels are easy to get the hang of but difficult to master.
8-bit style. The game has a distinct retro feeling to it, from graphics to gameplay, sound and music.
12 action-packed levels. Not much for the first release, but just try beating this game! But more importantly, there’s…
Extendability. You are able to create, play and share your own level sets. They’ll appear right in the game’s menu, and if you send them to us we’ll feature them right here!
Joystick compatible. Play with a keyboard or a gamepad.

Given the time we took to whip this up, we got a lot done! But we are going to improve this game and release a new version that will include a few more levelsets to enjoy, more enemies, and the ability to use your lance against intelligent bouncing enemies.

This will be the first of many great games to come from Tengu. Stay tuned for an official announcement of the next project!

Coming Soon: Sir Boingers and the Quest for Cupcakes (and Justice)!

Yes, we’re actually working on a game. It’s called Sir Boingers and the Quest for Cupcakes (and Justice). It’s an entry for Radnen’s Retro Game Competition over here. The game will be a retro-style arcade platformer where you’re a knight on a bouncing bird, navigating through tricky levels, trying to retrieve cupcakes, avoiding many obstacles and fighting off foes along the way.

Release date

It will be released on May 3, 2010 (if everything goes well).

New Site Finally Up

Well, the new, WordPress-based site is finally up. This only means that we’re putting the blog we had up for months as the main page now, and will hopefully be a big motivation to actually get the site done. The theme you’re seeing is definitely not the theme the final site will have!

By the by – my own blog has also moved to http://vincent-beers.blogspot.com/ now, and I’ll be posting Tengu-related news there once in a while too. It’s a more personal blog, really.
